In our hostels, we need large quantities of flour to provide chapati (wheat flatbreads) for more than 200 people daily. Recently, we have started growing our own wheat.
The sharply rising prices for flour have led us to acquire a large plot of land near Skardu to be used for wheat cultivation. In the spring, natural fertilizer was applied, followed by sowing. In the summer, the wheat was harvested, with the yield being far higher than expected. Afterwards, corn (maize) was planted, which was harvested in the autumn. It is used as animal feed over the winter.
For irrigation, we have installed a solar-powered water pump that brings groundwater to the surface.
