Over the past 20 years, we have provided immediate and long-term assistance following various natural disasters, such as earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
Earthquake
In 2006, a severe earthquake struck the Kashmir region. We provided financial emergency assistance for the construction of shelters for refugees from mountainous areas. Additionally, we made a donation to Malteser International for the reconstruction of a medical facility in the Palas Valley.
Following the powerful earthquake in Nepal in 2015, we donated a significant amount to the organisation “Friends of Nepal,” which was involved in emergency relief efforts in the most affected areas.
Fire
In 2007, a fire broke out in the village of Arandu in the Basho Valley, completely destorying 12 houses. We provided emergency assistance for the construction of shelters and supported those affected with generous aid.
Flood
In 2010, large parts of the country were affected by severe flooding. Baltistan also suffered significant damage from floods and mudslides. We provided emergency relief in the hardest-hit areas.
Landslide
In 2019, several houses in the village of Gulabpur in the Shigar Valley were severely damaged ba a mudslide, and fields were destroyed. We helped the affected families to rebuild their homes and financed the construction of a protective wall.

Once again, the widely traveled geography teacher Eduard Spielbauer supported the Karakoram Aid Initiative with a benefit lecture. On November 26, 2025, he spoke about his experiences in sub-Saharan Africa.
Many thanks for his commitment.
For the second time, development aid worker Antonie Lindner from Neuhofen was able to enlist Chiemgau filmmaker Stefan Erdmann for a benefit event. With his impressive documentary on Iceland, he took the audience on a journey through spectacular landscapes.
The proceeds from the evening at the Sparkasse Eggenfelden’s event hall will benefit the children in the mountain villages of the Braldo Valley—a heartfelt project that Antonie Lindner has been supporting with great dedication for several years.
We deeply regret the death of Laura Dahlmeier, who lost her life due to rockfall while attempting to climb Leila Peak in the Karakoram. Her expedition was organized by Shipton Treks & Tours, an agency founded by us as a self-help project of the Karakoram Aid Initiative.
The photo was taken shortly before the group set off for the Baltoro Glacier. Laura is on the far left, Rasool in the center of the image.
